Cape Beach House sits on Lighthouse Road directly opposite Clarkes Beach, one of the most sheltered and beautiful stretches of sand on the Byron Bay headland. It is a bed and breakfast in the truest sense: a small, privately owned property where the host knows your name, breakfast is made fresh each morning, and the scale of the operation produces a quality of stay that larger properties on the Byron Bay strip have no way of replicating.

Katie and Marc have owned and operated Cape Beach House since 2010. They are Byron Bay locals in the full sense of that phrase, with family connections to the area stretching back to 1983. Their knowledge of the town, the seasons, the beaches, and the restaurants is not the curated knowledge of a hospitality professional who moved here for work. It is the knowledge of people who have raised three sons in Byron Bay and still love it as much as the day they arrived.

The property has a handful of suites, each renovated to a contemporary coastal standard: bright rooms, clean lines, Australian timber deck access, modern bathrooms with quality fixtures, flat-screen television, iPod docking station, air conditioning, and beach towels included as a matter of course. Guests with rooms at the front of the property open their French doors onto a private verandah that looks out over the garden and the plunge pool. On a clear morning, you can hear the surf from Clarkes Beach directly across the road.

Breakfast at Cape Beach House is one of the consistently noted details in every guest review from the past decade. Katie bakes muffins fresh each morning. Homemade toasted muesli is served with yoghurt and seasonal fruit. Toasts, tea, and coffee round it out. It is not a buffet in a hotel corridor. It is a breakfast at a family table where guests are introduced and the morning has a pace that matches the rest of what Byron Bay is supposed to feel like.

The guest lounge and communal terrace give guests somewhere to be between the beach and their room that does not feel like a hotel lobby. The outdoor pool and sun deck are genuinely usable rather than ornamental: small enough to feel private, positioned well enough to catch the afternoon sun.

The property provides a curated local guide book assembled from years of Katie and Marc actual experience of the town. It covers dining, beaches, markets, hinterland drives, and the kind of hyperlocal recommendations that no review platform aggregates.

    What Sets Us Apart

    Why Cape Beach House

Byron Bay has accumulated a significant number of accommodation options across every price point. The case for Cape Beach House over the alternatives comes down to three things that money alone does not solve.

The first is location. The property position on Lighthouse Road, directly opposite Clarkes Beach and at the foot of the lighthouse headland, is not replicated by any other accommodation in Byron Bay. The resorts and larger hotels are either south of town on the more exposed Tallow Beach strip or in the commercial centre with no beach proximity. Walking from Cape Beach House to the Cape Byron Lighthouse Trail takes five minutes. Walking from Cape Beach House to Clarkes Beach for the 6am swim takes less than one.

The second is the hosting. Katie and Marc are not hospitality professionals running a corporate bed and breakfast. They are Byron Bay locals who bought a property they love and run it the way they would want to stay somewhere. The wine on arrival, the handmade muffins, the local knowledge book, the genuine warmth of the welcome: these are consistent across years of guest reviews because they come from people who genuinely care about the experience rather than from a service standard manual.

The third is scale. Four to six suites means the property never feels crowded, the pool is never booked, and the breakfast table is never impersonal. It means your hosts remember your name and know which room you are in. It means the morning experience at Cape Beach House is closer to staying with well-connected friends than to checking into a hotel. For a particular kind of traveller, that is worth everything.

    Where We Are

    Location

Cape Beach House is at Lighthouse Road, Byron Bay NSW 2481, on the eastern end of Byron Bay beachfront strip. The location places it at a specific intersection of access and quiet that is difficult to find in Byron Bay.

Directly opposite: Clarkes Beach, a north-facing, sheltered beach that catches morning light early and is consistently less crowded than Main Beach to the west. The beach is approximately a 45-second walk from the front door.

Walking east from the property: the Captain Cook Lookout (5 minutes), the entry point to the Cape Byron Walking Track (5 minutes), Wategos Beach (20 minutes along the track), and the Cape Byron Lighthouse at the most easterly point of mainland Australia (25 to 30 minutes on foot along Lighthouse Road and up the headland).

Walking west toward town: The Pass Beach (12 minutes along the foreshore), the town centre of Byron Bay (15 minutes), the restaurants and cafes of the main strip (15 to 20 minutes depending on your pace).

The position at the lighthouse end of the bay means the property is insulated from the nightlife noise of the main street while remaining an easy walk to everything worth visiting. Lighthouse Road is residential and quiet. The loudest sound at Cape Beach House on most nights is the surf across the road.

Free parking is available on site. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is approximately 40 minutes by car.
